23 invented court cases, a $110,000 fine
Two lawyers let an AI write their court filing. It invented 23 cases that do not exist, and the judge fined them $110,000.
That is the biggest US case so far, but courts have caught these tools inventing fake cases over 1,600 times this year (Fortune). The assistant does not lie on purpose. It fills the gaps with whatever sounds right: real names, real quotes, all invented. Make it show its sources, and let it say "I don't know."
